Digital Exhibition 2024

Call for contributions

The British Association for Irish Studies invites doctoral students and early career researchers to submit contributions to the inaugural BAIS digital exhibition of research 2024.

Finding creative ways to communicate research is an exciting and valuable endeavour for those interested in sharing their work across disciplinary boundaries and with more diverse audiences. This multidisciplinary exhibition will showcase Irish studies research through posters, short films, audio, and other expressions of work from scholars across Britain. The exhibition will demonstrate the exemplary Irish studies research taking place at universities and by independent scholars across England, Scotland, and Wales, and provide great exposure for researchers in the early stages of their careers.

The exhibition will be launched on the British Association of Irish Studies website in May 2024. All contributors will be invited to the British Association of Irish Studies annual prize giving ceremony at the Irish Embassy in London in 2024.

Additional information

The purpose of this exhibition is to engage scholars beyond their discipline or field of study and potential public audiences through non-text-based outputs. We invite submissions from PhD students and ECRs based on ongoing and completed research projects, or aspects of this research, who are interested in this form of engagement. The medium of communication is down to you, but a few examples and tips are listed below:

Research poster (pdf. format): Keep the title short and text to around 350 words in total. Images/other visuals are imperative.

Short film: An opportunity to show your face and to showcase images and other visual sources. This could be a narrated presentation or speaking to the camera. We recommend 6 minutes maximum.

Audio: Tell us a story about an aspect of your research. Be wary of using non-specialist language – without visuals it will be more difficult for non-specialists to appreciate your research. Maximum recommended length is 4 minutes.

If you have another idea in mind – go for it! And do not hesitate to get in touch with any questions.
